Getting started with Zaovra
The essentials for the desktop app. More guides are being written alongside the Windows beta.
1. Install and sign in
Install the desktop app from the download page once the Windows beta is published, then sign in with your Zaovra account. Signing in is required for every desktop session; a membership is not.
2. Open a workspace
Choose a project folder. Zaovra reads files, runs commands and shows changes inside that workspace. Sensitive actions such as editing files or running commands follow the permission mode you choose.
3. Review changes
Every session keeps its file diffs, terminal output and tool calls next to the conversation, so you can inspect results before continuing.
Connect a model provider
Zaovra does not include model usage by default. Connect a provider you already use (BYOK), or use Zaovra managed access once memberships open.
Connect a built-in provider
- Open Settings → Model services in the desktop app.
- Pick a provider under Popular providers, or use View more providers to search the full list.
- Sign in with the provider account or paste an API key, depending on what the provider supports.
- Enable the models you want, then pick one when starting a session.
- Anthropic
- OpenAI
- GitHub Copilot
- OpenRouter
- Vercel AI Gateway
Custom and local endpoints
Any service that speaks an OpenAI-compatible protocol can be added as a custom model service, including relays and local servers.
- In Settings → Model services, choose Custom model service.
- Choose the compatible protocol: Chat uses /chat/completions, Responses uses /responses. Check your provider's docs — many relays support only one.
- Enter the service URL and key, then fetch the model list, or enter model IDs manually if the service cannot list them.
- Save the configuration. Generation and tool calling depend on the endpoint and model, so try a short task first.
Who bills you
With BYOK, usage is billed by your provider under your own account; Zaovra does not charge for it. Token counts shown in the app are recorded usage, not charges.
